i grew up in north carolina. although i’d always been an artist, after completing high school, i attended norfolk state university to study nursing. i worked as a nurse for a number of years before returning to school as an undergraduate to study art, my first love, at the university of maryland, college park. i studied under great minds like david driskell, margo humphrey and anne truitt. i received my mfa from howard university. my work is done primarily in mixed media. i often use lost or little known african american history as subject matter in order to teach, while celebrating women through my artwork.
