Blue McRight

My work is a synthesis of years spent exploring underwater wilderness as a scuba diver and developing a metaphoric visual language in response to it. Undescribed Variations is a series of sculptures that utilizes salvaged materials alluding to transparency, volume, weight, capture, and loss. The term Undescribed Variation is used to classify what has been observed but not yet named: a fraught space between authentic nature and cultural ownership. My practice takes the organic processes of life, death, sexuality, and gender identity in marine creatures as inspiration. I trust their beauty, their indifference, their violence and integrity.
