I think a lot about human resilience when I draw. Usually, I look at scarring or unusual growths as a metaphors for the way we respond to trauma, or the way we process feelings like anxiety, alienation, and horror. The way our bodies re-knit themselves after serious harm is its own kind of beautiful, and the whorls and knots in scar tissue are a testament to a biological will to persist in the face of forces that try to harm us.
