In my work I explore the experience of uncertainty as it pertains to acts of perceiving, understanding and knowing. Each photograph starts with an idea that is fabricated in the studio and precisely composed and lit for the camera. I gravitate towards photography as a medium because it naturally removes subjects from their context. By placing a frame around a subject isolating it from its surroundings a layer of mystery is added or a layer of knowability is removed. The removal of context provides distance between seeing and knowing what one is seeing, making interpretation an active part of the viewing process.
