I use embroidery, natural dyeing, weaving and beading to create handheld, embroidered drawings and books; modular, wearable textiles for performance and interaction; large-scale flags; and handheld to human-sized sculptures. I lead interdisciplinary textile arts, social history, poetry, and storytelling events. These include embroidery circles capturing language from poetry readings; and growing colonial textile crops and leading public dye and fiber workshops where we discuss connections between colonialism, foundational enslaved labor and contemporary race and social justice issues.
