Marsia Alexander-Clarke

I call my video – video as mark – in reference to the marks found in drawing and painting. Fragments recorded in nature capture the play of light on plants and become slices of time interrelating across the space of the screen. Each mark is filled with movement and light and is at once geometric and organic. The format of the screen is integral to the work. The narrow linear marks are echoes of the narrow lens through which I experience my surroundings; similar to the limitations of human understanding; how little we know about the Universe, about nature, about ourselves.
