Maureen McQuillan

My current work is based on a systematic investigation of color that reflects my interest in the way the perception of color has changed as technology has advanced. As much as I try to follow the rules I make at the outset, my process invariably runs off the rails, and I go off in unexpected directions. That is not to say I rely on accidents; my process is a very directed and restrictive system — it’s just that all plans go awry and all systems eventually go haywire. Maureen McQuillan was awarded a permanent public art commission by MTA Arts & Design for the Astoria Station at 36th Avenue in Queens which opened in 2018.
