Megan Frances symbolically portrays humanity’s imprint on the natural world. Her paintings, primarily abstract with thematic representational elements, connote lost pristine landscapes. Stylized leaves, plant forms and allusions to landscape, reference nature and the environment. Compositional interventions, the works are painted on found textile instead of canvas. In them, hard edge painted elements interact and contrast with botanical motifs in the background. Sub-tropical flowers and foliage refer to the artist’s formative years when she lived in the Bahamas. Born in Canada, Frances attended art school in Canada and France.
