Nene Humphrey

As a long-term artist-in-residence at New York University’s LeDoux Neuro-Science Lab, I collaborate with neuroscientists to depict the seemingly infinite space of emotion and memory as it is processed in the brain. The scientists’ works, my lab drawings of the amygdala, the powerhouse of human emotion, and recorded sound— are integrated into performances videos, and installations. These are often deeply personal and immerse their audiences in tangled narratives. In other words, my art explores loss, the neurology of emotion and the beauty inherent in these states.
