My work includes installation, textile, and books colored with natural plant and mineral dyes. I focus on materials with long cultural narratives: vintage lace; and ancient color sources such as oak gall wasp nests, cochineal insects, indigo, and clay. The use of donated textile and natural dyes is a framework for creating monumental works with a small ecological footprint. Sewn into large shroud-like works, I layer objects of lamentation akin to votives, reliquaries, and other ritualized body forms from hair, pearls, bone beads, Milagros, metal, and cast plaster.
