Rema Ghuloum

My paintings are emotional. They try to communicate something that cannot be done with words. They attempt to transform the viewer, allowing them to feel something deep within them. They emerge by slowly building up the surface with thin stains of paint, sanding in between to preserve the previous layers. Patterns and shapes are manifested through this process. Like cellular memory, this allows for the history of the painting to be present, appearing, and dissolving. This creates a surface that breathes, remembers, shifting, and remaining in a state of becoming.
