This image represents a painted banner shown at Art in Odd Places: Care, 2024, on 14th Street, NYC. It’s about the hundreds of young, French Speaking, male West Africans dumped in the East Village in winter by DeSantis, Abbott, Adams, and the tremendous response of the neighborhood to welcome and assist them. The pattern is loosely based on Senegalese fabric. I work in mixed media, my work is eclectic and experimental, often based on my surroundings (for ex. a painting series titled, ‘Moonrise Over 14th Street’, or on cultural references (for ex. ‘The Existential Crisis Series’, based on films from the 1960s-70s). www.sallyapfelbaum.net
