Valerie Wilcox

I’m a mixed media artist working with common and salvaged materials to create connections between our everyday lives and ideas about how we construct our physical and psychological space. I like to push the surreal with ambiguous shapes that hover between a two-dimensional plane and a three-dimensional structure. Often nuanced by the effects of light and shadow, my work plays with the concept of space and perception, but not necessarily the reality of it. These “objects” become my canvas and emphasize the materials with which they were made as much as the painted and textured surfaces.
