Diana Kurz

My paintings and drawings celebrate the world around me and often contain narratives of deep personal significance. They are inspired by observation, photos, memories and imagination. My paintings tend to be large in scale and are “painterly” in style. I build up the paint surface in thin layers and glazes. Color is of utmost importance to me and I use it to create form, space and structure. Formal issues such as composition, relationship of forms, etc. underlie my work, no matter the overt subject matter. My favorite subjects are people (both individual portraits and multi-figure narratives), animals and landscapes.
