I paint stories of my travels; where I’ve been, what emotions attend my experiences. Navigate my painting surfaces, many dense as a novel, others a Haiku. Reflections of time spent in the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia. Places much on my mind when I approach art making – Iran, Tunisia, Morocco, Afghanistan, Jordan, Pakistan, India. Images transformed from blanched deserts to explosions of color and texture. Calligraphic marks, smudges, swirls, bits of canvas, scraps of fabric, torn pieces of old notebooks, dabs of paint. All materials become a long ago reality – desert skis, sun scorched sands gardens, souks, courtyards.
