My work addresses the ongoing crisis of plastic waste and pollution In the past century, plastics facilitated marvelous advancements in medicine, food storage, shipping, and communications. But plastic waste has become catastrophic. Plastic trash lines city streets, country roads, rivers, and coastlines; it floats in all bodies of water in the world, and in ourselves. Plastic bag bans and all efforts to curtail plastic waste have not kept pace with increasing production of plastic. I once hoped that awareness would lead to change. I completely misunderstood the intention and momentum of the petroleum industry.
