Lesley Krane grew up in Los Angeles, earned a B.A. in Art at UCLA and an M.F.A. in Studio Art at UNM, Albuquerque. Domestic discards and environments inform her collages and photographs. After steeping in hot water, a soggy teabag is discarded and forgotten, yet the stains left behind on the teabag’s translucent skin imitate the exposed grains of silver in a photograph. Reductive abstract compositions, whether hand-stitched or photographed, become visually detached from their original context and emphasize a psychological space beyond their physical dimensions or practical function.
