Art provides a way of coping with uncomfortable aspects of change. We live in a time in which language is dangerous. Social media comments can actually kill people. The term Sub Rosa is a Latin phrase that literally means ‘under the rose’ and denotes an emblem of secrecy. But the rose is also a symbol of maternal creativity or that which emerges from an intrinsically feminine generative power. Intuition has been the driving force behind my creative process, here referencing the restoration of reef ecosystems, playing on the misspelling of the word scary, a skerry is another name for a reef.
