Sharon Moody

Sharon Moody is a realist painter whose current project depicts vintage comic books using trompe l’oeil techniques. Her subjects are mass-produced consumer products and reference the Pop art roots of her work and her meticulous rendering nods to hyperrealism. Trompe l’oeil painters often depict subjects that are amusing; it is in this vein that Moody examines these worn cultural artifacts. “Popular culture, including entertainment, is arguably America’s largest export today,” she says. The Wonder Woman comics she has recently explored reveal changing attitudes towards women over the last half-century.
