Susan Hensel (b. 1950, Ithaca, NY) creates sculptural textile works that blend mixed-media techniques with fabric and embroidery, using digital and manual processes. Her work explores the physics of light as it interacts with the structure of triangular embroidery thread. Conceptually, her practice addresses climate change’s emotional and environmental impacts, offering viewers contemplative spaces to reflect, feel, and imagine the possibility of a healed world. Hensel’s artwork is in over 30 public collections and libraries, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Getty Research Institute, and the Garrett Museum of Art.
